One for Full-Time Regular and one for Full-Time Temporary employees. Both include health plans with prescription benefits and a 401(k) Savings Plan with employer matching. Meet Our Leadership

Founder

John Eddie Soileau

  • VIEW BIO

    Eddie, a 1963 graduate of the University of Southwestern Louisiana with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, joined the United States Army in 1963 and received his Honorable Discharge in 1965. Eddie then began his pipelining career with Louisiana Intrastate Gas Corporation in Alexandria, LA, as a Pipeline Engineer, transferred to Design Engineer and was eventually promoted to Senior Design Engineer. He was later employed by Ashy Construction as an Engineering Superintendent. In May 1974, Eddie founded Sunland Construction Inc., & Affiliates. Under his leadership, Sunland has grown and continues to grow into a healthy, profitable, and widely respected family of companies.

Sean Renfro

    Sean began his pipeline career in 1992 and he joined Sunland in 1995. Working his way up from an Office Manager, Sean soon became an Estimator/Project Manager for the Western Division located in Channelview, TX. In 1997, he accepted the position of Assistant Division Manager for the Rocky Mountain Division and relocated to Aztec, NM. In January of 1998, he was promoted to the Division Manager of the Rocky Mountain Division.  In 2010, Sean was promoted to Vice President/General Manager of Sunland and relocated to Eunice, Louisiana. In 2012, as part of a restructuring of the company, he was promoted to Senior Vice-President.  In early 2017, he was promoted to President.  Sean was promoted to his current position of Chief Executive Officer in October 2018.

Alva West

    Alva graduated from Hardin-Simmons University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Business Administration, majoring in accounting. He began his career in public accounting, where he advanced to the role of Senior Audit/Tax Manager. In 1994, he obtained his Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification for the State of Texas. After leaving the public accounting sector, he entered the corporate healthcare industry with SMRS, Inc. as a controller. During his 13 years at SMRS, Inc., Alva was promoted to Vice President and Assistant CFO. He then changed his career path by joining Lauren Engineering and Construction as their Controller and later accepted a position as CFO with Atlas Oilfield Construction Company. In 2012, he became the Regional Controller for Integrated Services at Sunland and was promoted to CFO in 2015.

Benjamin Aton

    Ben graduated in 1997 from the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree in Systems Engineering.  As a Nuclear (Surface) Officer, Ben served eight years in the Fleet prior to leaving active duty.  In 2005, Ben joined TAMKO Building Products in Joplin, MO, and completed numerous projects as a certified Six Sigma Black Belt.  In 2007, he was recalled to active duty and served for a year in Baghdad, Iraq, as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  Upon Ben’s return, he joined Sunland Construction, Inc. in 2008 as Operations Support at the corporate office in Eunice, LA.  From 2012 to 2018, he served as General Manager of Foremost Pipeline Construction, an affiliate of Sunland.  In 2018, Ben was promoted to Vice President.  In 2022, he became Senior Vice President and then President in 2023.

Paul Cook

    Paul started his career in the oil and gas industry as a shop and field laborer in 2002.  Paul continued as a laborer on various pipeline jobs while pursuing his Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Engineering Technology from the University of Southern Mississippi.  After graduating in 2007, Paul started with Sunland Construction, Inc. as an Estimator/Project Manager in the Eastern Division and later transferred to the Gulf Coast Division to diversify his skill set. In 2015, Paul continued his career with an opportunity in estimating as an Estimating Manager for MG Dyess.  He returned to the Sunland family in 2018, as the Assistant Division Manager for the Gulf Coast Division and was quickly promoted to the Director of Pipeline Operations in 2021. Paul currently holds the title of Vice President of Pipeline Operations for all of the pipeline divisions at Sunland Construction, Inc.

VP of Stations Facilities & Renewables

Joey Artigue

  • VIEW BIO

    Joey began his career in the trades in 1997 with an emphasis on pipefitting and welding.  In 2007, he transitioned from a tradesman into project controls with a focus on cost controls with Turner Industries Group, LLC and Ref-Chem, a Burns & McDonnell Company. Joey joined the Sunland family in 2011 in Project Controls of the Stations Division.  In 2013, he became an Estimator/Project Manager and was later promoted to the Assistant Division Manager of the Stations Division.  With Joey’s work ethic and dedication, he was promoted to the Division Manager of Station Division in 2016 and given additional responsibilities with starting Sunland’s Renewables Division.  With the growth in both the Stations Division and the Renewables Division, Joey has been given the role as Vice President of Stations Facilities and Renewables in October 2023.

Director of HSE

Cliff Dugas

  • VIEW BIO

    Cliff is the Corporate HSE Director at Sunland. Cliff focuses on strategic leadership for Sunland’s HSE and DOT programs, specializing in influencing behaviors to orchestrate cultural changes.  He holds three board certifications from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals and is a BSI (British Standards Institute), OSHAS and ISO TPECS lead auditor. Cliff has served in leadership roles in the oil and gas, marine, wind, and solar energy arenas for 20 years.  His prior experience includes a 12-year career in law enforcement as a Detective Sergeant.

Director, Business Development

Jim Binns

  • VIEW BIO

    Jim graduated and was commissioned from the United States Air Force Academy (where he was also a varsity water polo player) in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science degree in History.  He served as a Logistics Officer in a variety of roles around the world, including assignments in Italy, Japan, Greenland, Iraq, and Portugal.  In 2001, Jim earned a Master of Science degree in Management from Troy State University, and in 2009, he attained a PhD in Sport Administration from the University of Northern Colorado.  Upon retiring from the Air Force in 2014, Jim joined Kinder Morgan as a Contract Administrator.  In 2017, he was promoted to Procurement Supervisor, overseeing material and service purchasing for Natural Gas Business Unit in the Western United States.  In 2019, Jim joined the Business Development Team at Sunland Construction and became its Director in 2022.

Corporate Counsel & Secretary

Dan Schwarzenbach, J.D., CPCU

  • VIEW BIO

    Dan, Corporate Counsel and Secretary, joined Sunland in 2013. Prior to working with Sunland, Dan spent thirteen years as an administrator and in-house counsel for a multi-disciplined engineering design, architectural, and construction firm in the oil and gas industry, as well as approximately two years for manufacturer/service provider of heavy oilfield equipment.  Dan graduated from the University of New Orleans with a Bachelor of Science in Economics and received a Juris Doctorate from Loyola University, New Orleans School of Law.  Dan is a past President of the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) - Louisiana Chapter 2010-2011. He is currently a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association and the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter Society. Dan is also a Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist (CRIS®).
